Get into Uni-Bridging A Pathway Between Your ATAR and University Of Wollongong UOW
Kiama & Shoalhaven Community Colleges offer affordable university pathways and bridging scholarships in partnership with University Of Wollongong
It’s the time of year when stories of ATAR disappointment are too common. As HSC Students and their families come to terms with the shortfall between their ATAR and required University entry requirements, Kiama & Shoalhaven Community Colleges have a clear message: there are a wide range of Certificate IV and Diploma courses that can help students achieve their University entry aspirations, even if their HSC results aren’t what they had hoped for.
By successfully completing a Certificate IV or Diploma qualification at Kiama or Shoalhaven Community College, students will be guaranteed entry into the University Of Wollongong’s Bachelor Of Commerce (Shoalhaven), Bachelor Of Business (Shoalhaven) or Bachelor Of Arts (Shoalhaven) under articulation arrangements that have been established between Kiama Community College and UOW. Thanks to Smart & Skilled, and UOW Scholarships, this Bridging option is very affordable.
Courses available at the College in 2017 that qualify for University Entry Pathways include:
Certificate IV in Accounting FNS40615
Certificate IV in Business Administration BSB40515
Certificate IV in Leadership & Management BSB42015
Diploma Of Business Administration BSB50415
Diploma Of Leadership & Management BSB51915
Diploma Of Beauty Therapy SHB50115
Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy SHB40115

Certificate IV in Training & Assessment BSB40110
With NSW Government’s Smart & Skilled Training subsidies currently available for most Cert IV and Diploma Courses, combined with the availability of VET Fee Help and the University of Wollongong’s Pathway Scholarships, study options at Kiama & Shoalhaven Community Colleges as a means of gaining entry to University are not only of a very high quality but also affordable. In fact, students are able to undertake a University bridging course as part of their scholarship.
The College’s Certificate IV and Diploma courses can also be used as a means of gaining entry to a broader range of undergraduate degree courses with Cert IV courses attracting an ATAR equivalent of 72 and Diploma courses having an even higher ATAR equivalent. The Diploma in Business Administration can also provides up to 6 months credit towards a Business or Commerce Degree at UOW (http://www.uow.edu.au/content/groups/public/@web/@unia/documents/doc/uow110648.pdf) for students Other entry requirements may exist for specific university courses, so care should be taken to consult with the relevant faculty before selecting a bridging pathway.
Executive Officer at Kiama Community Colleges, Helen Zwicker says 2016 HSC students can access Government-subsidised places now, enabling them to select their course of choice and a study environment that meets their needs as they prepare for university entry.
“We are extremely proud to offer Illawarra and South Coast HSC students a pathway to University Of Wollongong, including guaranteed entry scholarship programs for Certificate IV qualifications such Business Administration and Accounting. In fact, students undertaking a qualification with the College could enter University as early as July 2017
Students also receive a NSW Tertiary Student Concession Card and Transport Concession for eligible courses, individualised student and pathway support, work placement embedded in most qualifications and perhaps most importantly, great employment outcomes.
Ms Zwicker adds: “The ultimate aim of HSC students who undertake our courses is to gain employment, whether that’s upon completion of their studies with us, or after going on to complete a university degree.
“We know our courses result in great employment outcomes - for example, our Diploma students achieve excellent employment results, with the most recent group of graduates achieving an 88 per cent employment rate within a month of completing their studies.”
A further benefit that past students have experienced by pathwaying to University via the College is the utilisation of the skills and knowledge obtained in their Cert IV or Diploma course to gain meaningful employment whilst undertaking their degree.
The Community College closes for Christmas on 23rd December 2016 and re-opens on 9th January 2017.
