Previous feltmaking experience or completed course on Saturday. Wool felt hats have been made for centuries; they can be as outrageous or as simple as you desire. Students will be amazed at the process of making their own felt hat without any sewing. Beginning with the designing of the template resist, then the felting process, through to details such as felt flowers and decorations for the hats. Various methods of surface design of the felts will be covered including how to incorporate fabrics, specialty fibres, and found scraps of textile directly into the feltmaking process. For Beginner to Intermediate - we’ll cover the sounds used in West African drumming to make the drum speak. We’ll learn how to produce the bass, tone, slap, closed slap and muffled slap sounds. We’ll put these sounds together and learn several traditional Ghanaian and Guinean rhythms. We’ll cover the drumming, singing, bell and shaker parts. Ideal for those interested in hand drumming who would like to improve their abilities and learn authentic rhythms and techniques. Spots are also available for those who would like to learn Dunun (bass drums played with sticks).
